ABOUT US

"I've Got My Own Picnic Right Here."

The Perfect Day Tent (Oasis #42) was started in Columbus, Ohio by Rick Lindner shortly after he attended the 1980 Sons Of The Desert Convention in Hollywood.  As a long time fan of Stan and Ollie, Rick asked the editor of the Intra-Tent Journal (the print "Voice" of The Sons Of The Desert) how to start a Tent.  Rick was told that starting a Tent was easy.  All he needed was six members.

However, there was the rub.  With his schedule, Rick didn't have time to solicit members, so he sent in six dues payments, received six copies of the Intra-Tent Journal, and never told anyone about it.  (Since part of the stated purpose of The Sons Of The Desert is to promote the memory of Laurel and Hardy and their body of work, they frown on "one person Tents.")  Rick chose "The Perfect Day" as the Tent name because he is a historic car enthusiast, and that film used the Model "T" Ford...a personal favorite...the most.

Enter Howard Newman.  Some years later, Howard was passing out fliers at a Three Stooges festival being held at the Palace Theatre.  The fliers were intended to solicit members to form a Laurel and Hardy Tent in Columbus.  Howard wanted to call the local Tent the Flying Elephants Tent because he thought that all of the other good film title names had been taken.  Rick told Howard that The Perfect Day Tent was already registered in Columbus, so they joined together to promote open membership and collect the dues.

From those humble beginnings, The Perfect Day Tent has grown to well over the six members required to be an "official" Tent.  Meetings are held approximately every other month (CLICK HERE for details of our Next Meeting), and generally consist of a review of Tent news, a delightful film program, good conversation, and a fun time all around.  Membership continues to be open, and all interested parties are invited to stop by and see what we have to offer (with no obligation to join).

We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting!
